COVID-19 and mental health: a multi-country study—the effects of lockdown on the mental health of young adults

Abstract Background Lockdown conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic have affected mental health of people, especially youth. This study examined effect lockdown on Egypt, Ghana, India, Pakistan, and Philippines assessed coping strategies in practice by Results had highest mean score all three domains followed then Ghana. There was a significant association gender with stress, educational status depression, anxiety stress. Students were associated anxiety, history close friends/family infected found be depression stress scores. The most common strategy for self-destruction; Pakistan religion; Ghana acceptance. Using linear regression model, scores observed avoidant coping. Conclusions findings confirm that has young adults. In particular, presence negative used youth tends an indicator increased levels it should considered when planning interventions within this population.
